INCREASE: An in-cell reaction system for multi-nucleon transfer and spontaneous fission at the FRS ion catcher

Adrian Rotaru et al.

Summary: This study proposes and develops a complex and long-range experimental program at the GSI FRS Ion Catcher facility for the production of neutron-rich nuclei via multi-nucleon transfer (MNT) reactions and spontaneous fission (SF). A new experimental setup is introduced to replace the standard electrode structure of the Cryogenic Stopping Cell (CSC), allowing the generation of radioactive isotope beams and efficient extraction of ions produced by MNT reactions or spontaneous fission. The system also enables experiments with higher rates and shorter half-lives using beams from the FRS.

The NEXT Project: Towards Production and Investigation of Neutron-Rich Heavy Nuclides

Julia Even et al.

Summary: The heaviest actinide elements can only be accessed through accelerator-based experiments. Multinucleon transfer is an alternative reaction mechanism to fusion-evaporation, which offers higher cross-sections. The NEXT experiment utilizes a solenoid magnet and a multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer to overcome the challenges faced in capturing and preparing the transfer products for precision measurements.

Origin of the heaviest elements: The rapid neutron-capture process

John J. Cowan et al.

Summary: The rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) is responsible for about half of the heavy elements found in nature, but uncertainties and open questions remain. Studies suggest that the production of the majority of heavy r-process elements may be associated with neutron-rich conditions, such as neutron star mergers.

alpha-decay-correlated mass measurement of Ra-206,Ra-207g,Ra-m using an alpha-TOF detector equipped multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph system

T. Niwase et al.

Summary: The atomic masses of Ra-206 and Ra-207 isotopes were measured with high accuracy using a multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph equipped with an alpha-TOF detector. The research also revealed the mass excesses, excitation energies, alpha-decay branching ratios, and reduced alpha widths of different Ra isotopes. The spin-parity of Ra-207m was confirmed through decay-correlated mass measurement results.
