Volume crystallization and microwave dielectric properties of indialite/cordierite glass by TiO2 addition

Hitoshi Ohsato et al.

Summary: Indialite/cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18) glass-ceramics with low dielectric constant and high Qf are potential materials for micro/millimeter-wave applications in 5G mobile communication systems. The addition of TiO2 was found to prevent cracking during surface crystallization, resulting in the formation of spherical crystals and specific precipitated phases. The reaction between cordierite and TiO2 produced the new Al2TiO5 phase, influencing the microwave dielectric properties.

Effect of MgO/SiO2 ratio and Al2O3 content on crystallization behavior and properties of cordierite-based glass-ceramics

Xiaoyang Xu et al.

Summary: The study examined the effects of MgO/SiO2 ratio and Al2O3 content on cordierite-based glass-ceramics. Results showed that decreasing Al2O3 content had a greater impact on the crystallization behavior of the glass-ceramics compared to increasing MgO/SiO2 ratio. At different temperatures, the MgO/SiO2 ratio and Al2O3 content influenced the crystallization behavior of cordierite.

Crystallization, spectroscopic and dielectric properties of CuO-added magnesium aluminosilicate-based glasses

Lidan Liu et al.

Summary: In this work, CuO-doped MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 based glasses were successfully synthesized using conventional melt quenching method, and the influence of CuO content on the structure and properties of the glasses was investigated. The results showed that CuO acted as a glass modifier to depolymerize the silicate network, with the main crystalline phase being alpha-cordierite. The presence of Cu2+ ions in the octahedral sites was confirmed by the characteristic absorption band around 750 nm on the optical transmittance spectra, and luminescence caused by Cu+ ions resulted in a decrease in luminescence lifetime.
