Efficient Diode Performance with Improved Effective Carrier Lifetime and Absorption Using Bismuth Nanoparticles Passivated Silicon Nanowires

Mariem Naffeti et al.

Summary: A novel design of bismuth nanoparticle-passivated silicon nanowire heterojunction composites was reported for high diode performances and improved effective carrier lifetime and absorption properties. Bismuth treatment dramatically improved the rectifying behavior and diode parameters, while also effectively increasing the minority carrier lifetime, demonstrating the benign role of bismuth as a surface passivation coating.

Photocatalytic activity and photoelectrochemical properties of Ag/ZnO core/shell nanorods under low-intensity white light irradiation

M. J. Kadhim et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod thin films were prepared by CBD and silver (Ag) nanoparticles were synthesized on the surface using electrochemical methods. The average particle size of the Ag/ZnO/glass core/shell nanostructure was 20 nm, exhibiting photocatalytic activity in degrading methylene blue dye under visible light. Annealed Ag/ZnO core/shell nanostructure showed improved degradation efficiency, with specific capacitance of the electrodes remaining at approximately 99%.

Structural and optical characteristics of silicon nanowires prepared by the Ag-assisted chemical etching method

Ahlem Rouis et al.

Summary: Research on silicon nanowires has shown that longer nanowires can improve the optical working of the nanostructures, potentially making them a candidate for high efficiency photovoltaic solar cells. Silicon nanowires developed via metal-assisted chemical etching method have higher intensity than the substrate, with the intensity increasing with longer etching times. The total reflectance of silicon nanowires reduced to less than 5% over the entire visible range, indicating their potential for higher absorbance in the visible wavelength range.

Role of secondary etching of silicon nanowires towards quantum confinement effect

Mihir Kumar Sahoo et al.

Summary: The quantum confinement effect (QCE) is crucial in tuning the bandgap of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) for efficient solar cell and optoelectronic device applications, enabling the transformation from an indirect to a direct bandgap semiconductor. Metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) fabricates columnlike SiNWs on silicon substrates, with the initial diameters being larger than the critical Bohr's diameter for QCE. However, secondary etching on the sidewalls of SiNWs leads to the formation of nanostructures smaller than five nm, triggering the quantum confinement effect and enhancing the performance of SiNWs.
