Stability and electronic structures of Cmmm-Pt3M alloys

Qun Wei et al.

Summary: In recent years, platinum-based alloys have been widely used in various fields due to their excellent properties. Through crystal structure prediction technology, the most stable structure of Pt3Li, Cmmm-Pt3Li, was obtained. By replacing Li atoms with different metal atoms, nine more stable Cmmm-Pt3M alloy structures were obtained. Various calculations were conducted to verify their structural stability and electronic properties.

oI20-carbon: A new superhard carbon allotrope

Lin Zhou et al.

Summary: The newly designed orthorhombic carbon crystal oI20-carbon, with Immm space group, exhibits excellent thermal stability, high Vickers hardness, and an indirect ultrawide band structure with a bandgap higher than most previously reported superhard carbon allotropes. It shows potential for applications in high-temperature, high frequency electronic devices and the aerospace industry.

Orthorhombic Fmmm-C80: A new superhard carbon allotrope with direct band gap

Wen Tong et al.

Summary: A new all-sp(3) hybridized orthorhombic superhard carbon phase Fmmm-C80 with direct band gap and low density has been discovered using CALYPSO code and first-principles calculations. It contains 80 carbon atoms in its unit cell and exhibits a calculated direct band gap of 4.11 eV, confirming its semiconducting nature. Additionally, Fmmm-C80 shows potential as a superhard carbon phase with a large Vickers hardness of 51 GPa.
