Metal-free polymer nano-photosensitizer actuates ferroptosis in starved cancer

Dapeng Chen et al.

Summary: A metal-free polymer photosensitizer called BDPB has been discovered as a new type of ferroptosis inducer for starved cancer cells. The study revealed that BDPB can generate O2?? and deactivate the AMPK-mTOR signaling pathway, leading to the death of cancer cells.

The implications of ortho-, meta- and para- directors on the in-vitro photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy activity of cationic pyridyl-dihydrothiazole phthalocyanines

Aviwe Magadla et al.

Summary: In this study, cationic zinc phthalocyanine complexes were synthesized by alkylation reaction and their photophysicochemical behaviors were evaluated. The meta and para-substituted complexes showed high singlet oxygen quantum yields and demonstrated good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as well as significant degradation effect on in vitro biofilms.

Summary: Raman spectroscopy (RS) and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) techniques provide potential for fast, sensitive, label-free microbial detection and identification. Different machine learning methods show varying capacities in rapid bacteria differentiation and accurate prediction, with DBSCAN performing best in clustering and CNN as the top model for predicting bacterial species via SERS spectra.
