Stem cells based in vitro models: trends and prospects in biomaterials cytotoxicity studies

Uzair Ahmed et al.

Summary: Advanced biomaterials are increasingly used in various medical applications, but controlling foreign body reactions is crucial to prevent treatment failure. Evaluating their biocompatibility and cytotoxicity in cell culture systems is important before moving on to in vivo studies. While stem cells have advantages for in vitro screening studies, difficulties in replicating the complex in vivo microenvironment limit their use for testing the cytotoxicity of biomaterials.

Post-resistance exercise photobiomodulation therapy has a more effective antioxidant effect than pre-application on muscle oxidative stress

Simone Mitie Sunemi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt) before or after high-intensity resistance exercise (RE) on muscle oxidative stress. PBMt application after RE showed a stronger antioxidant effect in preventing lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation, as well as increasing SOD activity. The results suggest that PBMt could be beneficial in reducing oxidative stress and improving antioxidant defenses in muscle tissue following intense exercise.
