KSHV/HHV8-mediated hematologic diseases

Ethel Cesarman et al.

Summary: Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV), also known as human herpesvirus 8, is associated with various lymphoproliferative disorders. KSHV and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) can infect and transform the same B cell, potentially leading to different diseases. Understanding KSHV biology and clinical features is crucial for targeted therapeutic interventions.

Human herpesvirus 8-negative effusion-based large B-cell lymphoma: a distinct entity with unique clinicopathologic characteristics

Savanah D. Gisriel et al.

Summary: Rare cases of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8)-negative effusion-based large B-cell lymphoma (EB-LBCL) occur in body cavities without antecedent or concurrent solid mass formation. EB-LBCL primarily affects elderly immunocompetent patients and manifests as lymphomatous effusion without a solid component. Our study found similar clinicopathologic characteristics to those reported in the literature, with Japanese cases showing a higher incidence of pericardial involvement, a higher rate of chemotherapy administration, and longer median overall survival.

HHV8-Negative Effusion-Based Large B Cell Lymphoma Arising in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients under Dasatinib Treatment: A Report of Two Cases

Stefano Fiori et al.

Summary: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are commonly used for treating BCR-ABL1-positive CML, with dasatinib being a frequently used second generation TKI associated with pleural effusion. This report discusses two cases of large B-cell effusion-based lymphoma (EBL) in patients with dasatinib-induced pleural effusion, one surviving and in remission while the other unfortunately succumbed to the disease and COVID-19-related pneumonia. The cases highlight the importance of further investigation to understand the possible association between dasatinib and EBL.

Primary effusion lymphoma occurring in the setting of transplanted patients: a systematic review of a rare, life-threatening post-transplantation occurrence

Magda Zanelli et al.

Summary: Primary effusion lymphoma is a rare and often fatal post-transplant complication that can develop several years after transplantation. Clinicians should be suspicious of this condition in transplanted patients, especially those presenting with unexplained body cavity effusions.
