Beauveria bassiana interacts with gut and hemocytes to manipulate Aedes aegypti immunity
Ricardo de Oliveira Barbosa Bitencourt et al.
Summary: This study assessed the invasion of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana into Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae and its effects on the larvae's immune responses. The fungus invaded the larvae through the midgut and reduced the concentration of blood cells. It also triggered cellular and humoral responses, including interactions between blood cells and the fungus, as well as increased expression of antimicrobial peptides.
