Vitinellopsis nov. gen., a new calcareous alga (Chlorophyta, Bryopsidales) from the Silurian of Gotland (Sweden), and the tribe Vitinelleae nov. nom

Daniel Vachard et al.

Summary: A new genus of calcified codiacean alga (Vitinellopsis nov. gen.) is reported from the Silurian limestones of Gotland, Sweden. The well-preserved material provides insights into the calcareous wall and unique thallus structure of this taxon. The discovery suggests that Vitinellopsis nov. gen. may have potential applications in stratigraphy, facies, and paleobiogeographic studies.

Summary: This study evaluates the growth behavior of intergrown corals and host stromatoporoids in Paleozoic shallow marine limestones and finds that their relationship is more complex than previously interpreted.

From lagoons to mud mounds: palaeoecology of the Givetian to Frasnian stromatoporoids from the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland

Pawel Wolniewicz

Summary: Stromatoporoids in the Holy Cross Mountains of Poland formed seven distinct associations ranging from late Givetian to middle Frasnian ages. These extinct Palaeozoic sponges exhibited a variety of ecological preferences, with different genera thriving in calm shallow waters, agitated environments, or deeper, low-energy settings. The stromatoporoid diversity at genus level was high, with overturned and broken/redeposited specimens dominating certain associations and sediment-laden facies prevalent in the Devonian carbonate platform.
