Neanthes goodayi sp. nov. (Annelida, Nereididae), a remarkable new annelid species living inside deep-sea polymetallic nodules

Regan Drennan et al.

Summary: A new species of abyssal Neanthes, N. goodayi sp. nov., was discovered in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in the central Pacific Ocean, highlighting the importance of the mineral resource itself as a distinct microhabitat. This species is considered a potential indicator taxon for monitoring the impacts of seabed mining due to its widespread distribution and distinctive characteristics.

Molecular diversity within the genus Laeonereis (Annelida, Nereididae) along the west Atlantic coast: paving the way for integrative taxonomy

Bruno R. Sampieri et al.

Summary: The polychaete genus Laeonereis has a wide geographic range along the Atlantic coast of America, with seven highly divergent molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs) identified, indicating the possible presence of separate species. Further evidence from sequence data supports this MOTU delineation and geographical segregation, suggesting the need for integrative taxonomic studies to clarify the taxonomic status of these MOTUs.

Revision of Laeonereis Hartman, 1945 (Annelida: Phyllodocida: Gymnonereidinae), with a review of shaft morphology in nereidids

Victor M. Conde-Vela

Summary: The genus Laeonereis is characterized by unique papillae structures and conservative parapodial features. To distinguish species, focusing on parapodial and chaetal features is more effective than relying solely on pharyngeal characteristics. A methodology for measuring length ratios of parapodial structures was proposed to improve the accuracy of their description. Additionally, differences between homogomph, heterogomph, and sesquigomph shafts in nereidid chaetae were reviewed and new definitions were proposed.
