Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Synthesis of Skipped Enynes via C(sp3)-H Alkynylation of Terminal Alkenes

Franco Della-Felice et al.

Summary: The Rh-III-catalyzed allylic C-H alkynylation of non-activated terminal alkenes selectively leads to linear 1,4-enynes at room temperature. Additionally, the vinylic C-H alkynylation of alpha, beta- and beta, gamma- unsaturated amides gives conjugated Z-1,3-enynes and E-enediynes.

A C-H Functionalization Strategy Enables an Enantioselective Formal Synthesis of (-)-Aflatoxin B2

Nicholas A. Falcone et al.

Summary: The enantioselective formal synthesis of (-)-aflatoxin B-2 from 4-methoxyphenylacetic acid has been achieved by producing a key carbon-carbon bond, a benzylic stereocenter, and two arene carbon-oxygen bonds in the course of three site-selective C-H functionalizations. The unprecedented carbonyl-directed acetoxylation of two arene C-H bonds described in this study occurs under mild conditions that preserve the configuration of a sensitive benzylic stereocenter.

Rh(iii)-Catalyzed allylic C-H amidation of unactivated alkenes with in situ generated iminoiodinanes

Pinki Sihag et al.

Summary: The Rh(III)-catalyzed allylic C-H amidation of substituted alkenes with in situ generated iminoiodinanes is demonstrated, being compatible with differently functionalized unactivated terminal alkenes and internal alkenes. Branch selectivity was exclusively observed in terminal alkenes, with a possible reaction mechanism involving in situ generated pi-allyl and metal-nitrene intermediates proposed based on detailed mechanistic investigation.

Recent advances in Rh(iii)/Ir(iii)-catalyzed C-H functionalization/annulation via carbene migratory insertion

Sanjeev Kumar et al.

Summary: In the past two decades, transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization followed by annulations with various coupling partners has attracted much attention in organic synthesis. Rh(iii) or Ir(iii) catalyzed regioselective C-H functionalization followed by the cyclization of diverse arenes with metal carbene precursors has become a highly investigated research field recently. This review aims to provide a comprehensive essay on the Rh(iii)/Ir(iii) catalyzed C-H functionalizations/annulations via carbene migratory insertion, with a focus on diverse metal carbene precursors with arenes/alkenes reported so far.
