2017 National Optometry Workforce Survey

David A. Heath et al.

Summary: Planning for effective eye care delivery relies on accurate knowledge of the optometric workforce and understanding demographic trends. This study aimed to assess current/future supply of optometrists and trends related to demographic shifts, sex-based differences, practice behaviors, and additional capacity. Results show an evolving optometric workforce with a projected growth higher than the U.S. population, and a more limited additional patient capacity than previously suggested.
