Physical, structural and optical characterization of silica-borotellurite glasses containing vanadium and nickel ions

Nurhayati Mohd Nor et al.

Summary: The effect of nickel concentration on the physical properties and optical parameters of silica borotellurite glasses was studied. Infrared spectroscopy showed an increase in nonbridging oxygens with increasing nickel concentration. The density and oxygen packing density of the glass decreased. ESR spectra confirmed the presence of V4+ ions in octahedral coordination with tetragonal compression. UV-vis absorption spectroscopy revealed a decrease in optical band gap and an increase in Urbach's energy and refractive index of the glass.

Structure and emission properties of P2O5-Na2O-Pb3O4-MO, (MO = SrO, Y2O3, MoO3, Ag 2O, CdO and SnO) glass and glass ceramics

E. M. Ahmed et al.

Summary: A group of glass and glass ceramic solids with specific compositions were prepared by rapid quenching and studied for their physical and chemical properties. The samples exhibited random environments and various phosphate groups and bands were detected. The density, molar volume, and thermal stability of the samples were found to be influenced by the constituent dopant molecules, showing behavior consistent with theoretical values. The samples also showed diamagnetic properties and emitted different colors of light when excited by specific wavelengths.

Optical and radiation shielding effectiveness of a newly fabricated WO3 doped TeO2-B2O3 glass system

Jamila S. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: The effect of WO3 doping on the optical and shielding properties of the TeO2B2O3 glass system was investigated in this study. The results showed that WO3 doping decreased the density of the glass samples and increased the molar volume. Optical analysis revealed that WO3 doping changed the values of direct and indirect optical band gaps. In terms of radiation shielding, the glass sample with the highest percentage of TeO2 exhibited the best shielding performance.

The Impact of Y2O3 on Physical and Optical Characteristics, Polarizability, Optical Basicity, and Dispersion Parameters of B2O3 - SiO2 - Bi2O3 - TiO2 Glasses

Kh. S. Shaaban et al.

Summary: This study describes the fabrication and spectroscopic characterization of Y3+ doped bismuth titanate borosilicate glasses by the melt quenching technique. XRD spectra analysis was used to establish the composition of the glass system. The optical properties of the glasses, including UV transmission, absorption, polarizability, and basicity, were found to be highly sensitive to the Y2O3 content. Additionally, it was observed that as Y2O3 content increased, the optical bandgap also increased while the Urbach energy decreased. The fabricated glasses were determined to be very semi-covalent based on calculations of various parameters.

Summary: The melt quenching process was used to fabricate PbO-B2O3-CuO-CaO glass samples, showing an increase in density and a decrease in optical band gap with higher PbO concentration. The refractive index, dielectric constant, and optical dielectric constant also increase with higher PbO concentration.

Effect of Y3+ on the structural and photoluminescence properties of yttrium-doped sodium borate glass

Ehab M. Ahmed et al.

Summary: A series of glass samples with different doping concentrations were prepared and characterized in terms of their structure and properties. The results showed that the glass had an amorphous structure, and different doping concentrations resulted in changes in forming ability, density, and photoluminescence properties. These Y3+-doped glass samples emitted greenish-cyan light under specific excitation wavelengths, making them suitable for outdoor illumination.

Summary: A quaternary glass system was prepared via melt quenching method, and its amorphous state was evaluated experimentally. The findings of neutron transmission studies showed that a 6mm thickness reduced the intensity of the fast neutron beam by half, and the maximum range of charged particles was observed in the high energy region. The prepared glass system exhibits promising features for dosimetry and radiation protection applications at neutron energies below 10 MeV.

Effect of Pb/B ion replacement in B2O3.PbO.Fe2O3.Na2O glasses: Optical, magnetic, and fluorescence properties

E. M. Ahmed et al.

Summary: Glasses with the formula (70-x) %B2O3. x%PbO.10%Fe2O3.20%Na2O were prepared using the melt quenching technique, showing complete amorphous structure confirmed by XRD. The study revealed that as the mol% of PbO in the glasses increases, molar polarizability, optical basicity, and refractive index decrease, indicating a transition from covalent to ionic nature. The glasses also exhibit high optical nonlinear properties, with metallization criterion and paramagnetic character controlled by the mol% of PbO.
