4D Direct Laser Writing of Submerged Structural Colors at the Microscale

Bingrui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-resolution hydrogel photoresist was developed for the fabrication of 4D microscopic SCs using the femtosecond direct laser writing method. By adjusting the laser parameters, pixel palettes with various colors were printed, covering almost the entire color space. Additionally, the hydrogel photoresist was able to undergo reversible discoloration by regulating the solution pH.

High-Order Photonic Cavity Modes Enabled 3D Structural Colors

Hailong Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new strategy was devised to generate high-order photonic cavity modes upon side illumination on woodpile photonic crystals, enabling one-step printing of 3D photonic structural colors. The resulting colors are vivid, with a wide spectral range and large viewing angles, and do not require postprocessing or subwavelength features.

Hierarchical Colorful Structures by Three-Dimensional Printing of Inverse Opals

Hemant Kumar Raut et al.

Summary: Structural coloration is a common solution in biological systems for controlling visible light, with more complex effects achieved by incorporating additional hierarchical structures. Researchers have successfully controlled photonic structures at different length scales using direct laser writing and nanosphere assembly, producing freeform hierarchical constructions with high-intensity structural coloration in the form of inverse opals.
