Vector beams generated with a Fourier transform processor with geometric phase grating

Jeffrey A. Davis et al.

Summary: In this work, a method for generating vector beams using a 4f polarization Fourier filtering system is presented. The system combines a spatial light modulator (SLM) at the input plane and a polarization diffraction grating (PDG) at the output plane. The PDG recombines two beams, producing the colinear superposition of right and left circularly polarized beams. By applying a random encoding technique to multiplex diffractive elements on the SLM, arbitrary vector beams can be generated at the output.

Will flat optics appear in everyday life anytime soon?

Wei Ting Chen et al.

Summary: Metasurface-based flat optical components, consisting of sub-wavelength dielectric nanostructures, offer advantages such as reduced size and complexity while introducing new functionalities. Examples include achromatic optical components, a full-Stokes metasurface camera, and a high-performance metasurface depth sensor. Future trends and opportunities in metasurface development are also discussed.

Geometric Phase in Optics: From Wavefront Manipulation to Waveguiding

Chandroth Pannian Jisha et al.

Summary: Geometric phase, with optics playing a key role, especially in the introduction of the Pancharatnam-Berry phase related to light polarization, offers exotic properties. Applications of this concept in photonics, such as phase modulation in anisotropic materials, are discussed along with the generation of a new optical waveguide using geometric phase without the need for index gradients.
