Experiment and modeling of the pulsed lasing in a diode-pumped argon metastable laser

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates pulsed lasing characteristics of a diode-pumped argon metastable laser based on a pulsed DC glow discharge. A transient rate equation model is established and solved to explain the cause of the pulsed lasing in the experiment. The insufficient production rate of argon metastable atoms and the slow transfer rate out of the 1s(4) state are found to be the key reasons for the pulsed lasing.

A linewidth narrowed diode laser for metastable Argon atom pumping

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: A volume Bragg grating-based external cavity diode laser array achieved over 100 W output power at 811.53 nm with a narrow spectral linewidth and high spectral contrast. The emission spectrum can be precisely tuned and has a wide tuning range, while pump absorption was demonstrated effectively using a repetitively pulsed glow discharge.

Summary: The diode-pumped metastable rare gas laser (DPRGL) has the potential for high-power operation, and a new architecture is proposed to produce high-density metastables in a large volume by extracting laser power from a diode-pumped plasma jet.

Revealing kinetics of a diode-pumped metastable Ar laser in pulsed and CW lasing

R. U. Wang et al.

Summary: We experimentally investigated the kinetics of a diode-pumped metastable Ar laser and found that the depletion of 1s(5) atoms is responsible for the pulsed lasing phenomenon, while increasing the duration and density of 1s(5) atoms results in continuous wave (CW) lasing. Additionally, population accumulation of the 1s(4) state was observed.
