Generation of ellipticity-tunable isolated attosecond pulses from diatomic molecules in intense laser fields

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: We investigated the generation of high-order harmonics and isolated attosecond pulses with tunable ellipticity from aligned molecules. The ellipticity of the harmonic is found to depend on the internuclear distance R. A resonant transition from the 1s sigma g state induced by the fundamental pulse is responsible for the nonzero ellipticity of the harmonic generated at R = 6 a.u. By using orthogonally polarized two-color laser fields with specific intensity, we can obtain isolated attosecond pulses with high ellipticity. The polarization of the isolated attosecond pulse can be varied from left to right elliptical polarization by synthesizing the harmonic spectrum with different orders. Such pulses can be useful for probing and manipulating ultrafast magnetic and chiral dynamics.

Molecular orientation echoes via concerted terahertz and near-IR excitations

Ran Damari et al.

Summary: A new and efficient method for orientation echo spectroscopy, utilizing concerted rotational excitations by both ultrashort terahertz and near-IR pulses, is presented and experimentally realized in this study. The all-optical detection is enabled by the molecular orientation-induced second harmonic method. This method provides practical means for investigating the orientation echo spectroscopy of gas phase molecules and highlights the intriguing underlying physics of coherent rotational dynamics induced by judiciously-orchestrated interactions with both resonant and nonresonant fields.

Influence of coherent vibrational excitation on the high-order harmonic generation of diatomic molecules

Mohammad Monfared et al.

Summary: In this paper, the impact of coherent vibrational excitations of diatomic molecules on the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectrum is theoretically explored. It is observed that interference structures appear in the HHG spectra controlled by resonances between the driving field and the vibrational wave packet.

Role of exchange and correlation in high-harmonic generation spectra of H2, N2, and CO2: Real-time time-dependent electronic-structure approaches

Carlo Federico Pauletti et al.

Summary: This study compares the high-harmonic generation (HHG) spectra of H-2, N-2, and CO2 molecules using different ab initio electronic structure methods. Despite minor differences in certain regions, the overall HHG spectra are very similar and not particularly sensitive to variations in the exchange and correlation descriptions. Further investigations on the molecular continuum and its interaction with strong fields are recommended for future theoretical studies.

Summary: An effective semi-classical method is introduced to control the high-order harmonic generation process and extend the cutoff frequency. The results demonstrate that properly tuned laser specifications can significantly increase the cutoff frequency.
