Additional Important Considerations in Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Enhancement Factor Measurements

Mingyang Chen et al.

Summary: Despite progress, precise evaluation of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate enhancement factor (EF) still remains unresolved. This study emphasizes the importance of probe molecules in terms of diffusion kinetics and surface coverage for accurate determination of the SERS EFs, which has not been addressed in previous research.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Bioimaging with an Ultrahigh Signal-to-Background Ratio under Ambient Light

Shuo Zhu et al.

Summary: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobes with high sensitivity and specificity of the fingerprint spectrum have limitations in signal-to-background ratio (SBR) and imaging requirements. Our developed bio-orthogonal nanoprobes overcome these limitations and achieve an ultrahigh SBR and ambient light anti-interference ability, opening up a new era for Raman imaging in clinical medicine.

Nanoscale engineering of ring-mounted nanostructure around AAO nanopores for highly sensitive and reliable SERS substrates

Jun Dong et al.

Summary: This study constructed a ring-mounted nanostructured SERS substrate using liquid-liquid two-phase self-assembly and membrane transfer techniques. The substrate allows for independent fine-tuning of the distribution density of nanoparticles (NPs) and dielectric constant. The results demonstrate high SERS activity and supersensitivity of the substrate, showing potential applications in biosensing, medical research, environmental monitoring, and optoelectronics.

Two-Dimensional Self-Assembly of Au@Ag Core-Shell Nanocubes with Different Permutations for Ultrasensitive SERS Measurements

Jun Dong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of different self-assembly methods on the enhancement of molecular Raman signals. The gold species growth method and liquid-liquid self-assembly and evaporation-induced self-assembly methods were used to prepare substrates with different arrangements of silver-coated gold nanocubes (Au@Ag NCs). The optimal arrangement of NCs was determined by comparing the Raman signal detection of probe molecules. The results show that the island membrane Au@Ag NCs array substrate obtained by evaporation-induced self-assembly has strong local electromagnetic fields, enabling it to have great potential in molecular detection, biosensing, and food safety monitoring.

Centrifugation-induced assembly of dense hotspots based SERS substrate for enhanced Raman scattering and quenched fluorescence

Dan Su et al.

Summary: In this work, a centrifugation-induced assembly of dense hotspots SERS substrates was developed from the hanging phenomenon. Star-like Au nanoparticles exhibited sintering-resistant behavior and showed the highest SERS enhancement on the 3D side of the centrifugation-induced assemblies. This study is of great importance for improving the sensitivity and uniformity of SERS detection.

Light-Trapping SERS Substrate with Regular Bioinspired Arrays for Detecting Trace Dyes

Xuan Jin et al.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated ordered micropyramids with strong light-trapping capability and assembled Ag nanobowls on them to form a SERS substrate with a bioinspired compound-eyes structure. The evidence for the contribution of antireflective Si micropyramids to Raman enhancement was presented for the first time, allowing for quantitative and qualitative detection of dyes and suggesting good prospects for application in optical sensors.
