Gate-tunable bolometer based on strongly coupled graphene mechanical resonators

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a gate-tunable bolometer based on two strongly coupled graphene nanomechanical resonators. The properties of one bolometer can be measured directly by tracking the resonance frequency shifts, while the other bolometer can be indirectly measured through mechanical coupling. The sensitivity and response bandwidth of both bolometers can be independently adjusted by tuning the corresponding gate voltages. The method has the potential to optimize the design of large-scale bolometer arrays and open new horizons in infrared/terahertz astronomy and other fields.

Ridge waveguide couplers with leaky mode resonator-like wavelength responses

Steffen Schoenhardt et al.

Summary: Integrated photonic resonators based on bound states in the continuum (BICs) on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform have the potential for novel, mass-manufacturable resonant devices. To overcome the size limitation of traditional resonator structures, this study investigates the translation of BIC-based ridge resonators into a guided mode system with finite lateral dimensions. Numerical simulations demonstrate that, similar to BIC-based resonators, such a waveguide system can exhibit spectrally narrow-band inversion of its transmissive behavior.

Population Inversion and Dirac Fermion Cooling in 3D Dirac Semimetal Cd3As2

Changhua Bao et al.

Summary: This study reveals the ultrafast dynamics of Dirac fermions in a 3D Dirac semimetal, showing their cooling mechanism and population inversion phenomenon. The linear dependence of relaxation rate on energy suggests cooling through intraband relaxation, and the observation of accumulated photoexcited carriers in the conduction band indicates population inversion with a relatively long lifetime compared to 2D graphene.

Dissipative Kerr solitons in semiconductor ring lasers

Bo Meng et al.

Summary: Dissipative Kerr solitons are self-organized optical waves that arise from the interaction between the Kerr effect and dispersion, forming in nonlinear microresonators by tuning the parameters of the external pump laser. The experimental observation of dissipative Kerr solitons in a ring cavity with a fast semiconductor gain medium extends the spectral range of soliton microcombs to mid-infrared wavelengths, showing potential for integrated, battery-driven spectrometers in the molecular fingerprint region.

Ultrafast photocarrier and coherent phonon dynamics in type-II Dirac semimetal PtTe2 thin films probed by optical spectroscopy

Peng Suo et al.

Summary: We report on the ultrafast photocarrier dynamics and coherent phonon excitation in platinum ditelluride (PtTe2) thin films, which are type-II Dirac semimetals. Using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy at room temperature, we quantitatively analyze the incoherent electronic relaxation and observe the generation of coherent acoustic phonon (CAP) and coherent optical phonon (COP). Our findings provide deep insight into the excitation and dynamics of CAP and COP, as well as the photocarriers' recovery pathway and lifetimes in PtTe2.

Summary: The photocarrier dynamics in Cd3As2 film was investigated using time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy. The results showed that photoexcitation led to a sudden increase in THz photoconductivity, followed by a single exponential relaxation. The relaxation time increased with temperature, while the lifetime remained almost constant above 220 K. The fitting of a model revealed a narrow energy gap around the Dirac node.
