A Filterless Photonic Approach for DFS and AOA Measurement Using a Push-Pull DPol-MZM

Xu Hua Cao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel and simple photonic approach for measuring the Doppler frequency shift and angle of arrival of a microwave signal in a radar detection system. The proposed method utilizes a dual-polarization Mach-Zehnder modulator and a low-speed photodetector to process the echo signals and generate low-frequency electrical signals for calculation and measurement. Experimental results demonstrate low errors in the measurements.

Photonic System for Simultaneous and Unambiguous Measurement of Angle-of-Arrival and Doppler-Frequency-Shift

Guangyi Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a photonic system based on a two-channel structure to achieve the simultaneous measurement of angle-of-arrival (AOA) and Doppler-frequency-shift (DFS) of microwave signals without direction ambiguity. The unambiguous AOA measurement is obtained by recording the power of the output intermediate frequency (IF) and radio frequency (RF) signals from two channels. The DFS can be determined from the frequency of the IF signal. Experimental results demonstrate a -66.44 degrees to 66.44 degrees AOA measurement with errors less than +/- 2.2 degrees, and an unambiguous DFS measurement with errors of +/- 0.6 Hz.

A Simple Photonics-Based Measurement Method for Microwave DFS and AOA

Qianqian Jia et al.

Summary: This article presents a simple microwave photonics measurement method for microwave doppler frequency shift and angle of arrival, which accurately obtains the information by comparing the frequency and phase shift. The introduction of a reference signal allows for a more intuitive judgment of the DFS direction. A proof-of-concept experiment demonstrates that the method achieves low measurement error over a wide frequency range.

Summary: A dual channel system based on a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator is proposed for simultaneous measurement of angle of arrival and Doppler frequency shift. By measuring the power of the beating signal of the two channels, the system can accurately measure the angle of arrival with low phase measurement error and determine the direction of the Doppler frequency shift. The system provides a simple and effective solution for modern radar and electronic warfare receiver applications.

Summary: A simplified photonic-enabled Doppler frequency shift measurement approach is proposed using a single DP-BPSK modulator and a fixed low-frequency reference. By analyzing the frequency of the generated photocurrent, both the direction and the value of the DFS can be measured. Experimental results show good system stability with a small measurement error.
