Polishing performance of recyclable and reusable SiO2 magnetic nanoparticle-based polishing nanoabrasive

Md Amir et al.

Summary: This study explores a recyclable and reusable hybrid nanoparticle-based polishing abrasive for optical polishing. The prepared nanoabrasive, with its overall uniform spherical structure and high surface area, provides uniform cutting tools effect and homogenous distribution on the surface of the polishing substrate. In the experiment, BK-7 optical glass was polished with the nanoabrasive, achieving excellent polishing performance and sub-nanometer roughness. Furthermore, the used slurry was successfully recycled using an external magnetic field due to the magnetic nature of the nanoabrasive.
