Continuous Tb-doped fiber laser emitting at ∼5.25 μm

B. Denker et al.

Summary: The paper describes a chalcogenide glass fiber laser that operates at a wavelength that cannot be achieved by oxide and fluoride rare-earth doped fibers. The laser has a selenide core doped with Tb3+ ions and an undoped sulfide cladding, and is pumped by a Tm3+ fiber laser. It achieves a high power output in the 5.20-5.28 mu m spectral band.

Laser potential of Pr3+ doped chalcogenide glass in 5-6 μm spectral range

Mikhail F. Churbanov et al.

Summary: The cross-relaxation processes in Pr3+ doped selenide glass efficiently populated the lowest excited state of Pr3+ ions, leading to the observation of stimulated emission at 5.5-5.9 mu m corresponding to the transition of Pr3+ ions. This study demonstrates the potential for achieving efficient stimulated emission in vitreous matrices.

Room-temperature Fe:ZnSe laser tunable in the spectral range of 3.7-5.3 μm applied for intracavity absorption spectroscopy of CO2 isotopes, CO and N2O

Peter Fjodorow et al.

Summary: An intracavity absorption spectroscopy system based on a broadband Fe:ZnSe laser was developed, achieving sensitive detection of CO2 isotopes, CO, and N2O with low detection limits. The system's sensitivity is limited by the short pump-pulse duration, with possibilities for enhancement discussed.

Core-clad terbium doped chalcogenide glass fiber with laser action at 5.38 μm

V. S. Shiryaev et al.

Summary: A core-clad Tb3+-doped Ga-Ge-As-Se/Ge-As-S chalcogenide glass fiber was fabricated and tested in laser experiment, with a special multi-stage purification technique developed to prepare the high-purity terbium doped Ga-Ge-As-Se core glass. The doped chalcogenide fiber achieved lasing at 5.38 μm for the first time when pumped by a Tm3+ 1.98 μm fiber laser.

Mid-infrared laser performance of Ce3+-doped selenide glass

Peter Fjodorow et al.

Summary: An extensive study of a novel room-temperature mid-infrared Ce3+-doped Ge20Sb10Ga5Se65 glass laser was reported. The study investigated the influence of output-coupler transmission on laser efficiency and emission spectra. The laser was pumped by a pulsed Fe:ZnSe laser at 4.1 mu m, demonstrating a maximum output energy and a tuning range for the first time.

B. Denker et al.

Summary: In a high purity Ce3+-doped selenide glass pumped by a 4.08 μm Fe:ZnSe laser, laser oscillations in the range of 5.1-5.5 μm were observed, providing the first evidence of laser action corresponding to the F-2(7/2) -> F-2(5/2) transition of Ce3+ ions.

Room temperature mid-infrared fiber lasing beyond 5 μm in chalcogenide glass small-core step index fiber

J. J. Nunes et al.

Summary: This letter reports mid-infrared fiber lasing beyond 5 micrometers at room temperature for the first time using Ce3+-doped chalcogenide glass. The lasing fiber was 64 mm long with a core diameter of 9 micrometers and clad diameter of 190 micrometers. Continuous wave lasing occurred at 5.14, 5.17, and 5.28 micrometers with increasing pump power.
