Electronic phase transition from semiconducting to metallic in cubic halide CsYbCl3 perovskite under hydrostatic pressure

Md Riaz Molla et al.

Summary: Throughout this study, the density functional theory was used to investigate the structural, electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of cubic halide perovskite CsYbCl3 under different hydrostatic pressure. The results showed that pressure significantly reduced the lattice constant and unit cell volume. The band gap also exhibited a reducing tendency under pressure up to 120 GPa, but a transformation from semiconducting to metallic behavior was observed at 160 and 200 GPa pressure. The tuning of band gap enhanced the electron transfer, optical absorption, and conductivity of CsYbCl3, making it more advantageous for device applications. Optical function analysis indicated that hydrostatic pressure further enhanced the suitability of CsYbCl3 for various potential applications. The mechanical properties reflected the ductile and anisotropic nature of CsYbCl3, which were greatly affected by applied pressure.

Tuning band gap and enhancing optical functions of AGeF3 (A = K, Rb) under pressure for improved optoelectronic applications

Md Safin Alam et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physical characteristics of AGeF(3) (A = K, Rb) under hydrostatic pressure using density functional theory. The research aims to reduce the electronic band gap of AGeF(3) to improve its optical properties for optoelectronic applications. The results show that the structural parameters are in line with previous studies, and the bonding between atoms becomes stronger under pressure. The application of hydrostatic pressure leads to changes in optical absorption and conductivity, with a lower band gap and improved conductivity observed. The study suggests that AGeF(3) may be suitable for use in optoelectronic devices operating in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum, and the compounds become more ductile and anisotropic under pressure.

First-principles calculations to investigate switching from semiconducting to metallic with enhanced mechanical and optoelectronic properties of CsPbCl3 under pressure

Khandaker Monower Hossain

Summary: Lead-free halide perovskite CsPbCl3 shows significant structural, mechanical, and electronic property changes under different hydrostatic pressures. The lattice constant and unit cell volume decrease with pressure, while the phase stability is maintained. CsPbCl3 exhibits ductile mechanical properties that become more pronounced with increasing pressure. The band gap decreases up to a certain pressure, leading to a transformation from a semiconductor to a metal. The tunable band gap enhances optical absorption and conductivity, making CsPbCl3 more favorable for optoelectronic device applications.
