Long term effect of operating loads on large monopile-supported offshore wind turbines in sand

Aliyu Abdullahi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the behavioural patterns of offshore wind turbines, particularly large ones supported on monopiles, to prevent negative impacts on their serviceability arising from modal property and foundation tilt changes. Data collected over 10 years is used to analyze load cases and estimating forces and moments acting on a prototype 10 MW OWT, revealing the potential underestimation of natural frequencies and tilt by fixed amplitude cyclic loads. By conducting long term model tests, the study aims to bridge the gap in understanding and predicting OWT behaviors.

Using incomplete complex modes for model updating of monopiled offshore wind turbines

Shuai Cong et al.

Summary: A comprehensive strategy is developed in this study for modeling monopiled offshore wind turbines using finite element methods, which involves optimal sensor placement and cross-model updates to correct major sources of error. The proposed method shows effectiveness in simultaneously updating model parameters and improving accuracy in dynamic analysis and design.

A Bayesian smoothing for input-state estimation of structural systems

Mohsen Ebrahimzadeh Hassanabadi et al.

Summary: A new unbiased recursive Bayesian smoothing method is proposed for input-state estimation of linear systems to reduce estimation uncertainty through an extended observation equation. Additionally, a new efficient method is introduced for the recursive calculation of correlation of state estimation error with modeling and observation noise vectors.

Operability analysis of SWATH as a service vessel for offshore wind turbine in the southeastern coast of China

Binbin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the operability of using the new type of SWATH vessel for walk-to-work operations off the southeastern coast of China. The analysis of SWATH's motion behavior shows excellent operability for various transfer approaches and wave headings, although higher fuel consumption is observed under high sea-states. With an average operability greater than 95%, SWATH proves to be a more attractive vessel type compared to monohulls.

Mechanism of Hard-Roof Rock Burst Control by the Deep-Hole Blasting: Numerical Study Based on Particle Flow

Anliang Lu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that deep-hole blasting technology plays a crucial role in hard-roof control by reducing the energy storage capacity of the hard roof to prevent rock burst disasters. It was also found that DHB can alter the collapse morphology during the mining process and effectively reduce the strength of force chains in the overburden.
