Investigation of unsteady cryogenic cavitating flow and induced noise around a three-dimensional hydrofoil

Aibo Wei et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the use of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) combined with the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model and the permeable Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H-pds) acoustic analogy approach to study the unsteady cavitation behaviors and the radiated noise characteristics of transient liquid nitrogen cavitating flow. The study finds a direct relationship between cavity volume acceleration and cavitation noise generation, and demonstrates the importance of cavity evolution in radiated noise. The collapse of small cloud cavities downstream and the interaction between re-entrant jets and the main flow are identified as key mechanisms for generating intense acoustic impulses for both sheet and cloud cavitation.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Cavitation Number Limitations for Hydrodynamic Cavitation Inception Prediction

Maxim Omelyanyuk et al.

Summary: This study discusses the phenomenon and characteristics of hydrodynamic cavitation, as well as the relevant parameters for predicting and improving this phenomenon. Through a comparison between experiments and computational simulations, it was found that cavitation inception is highly sensitive to changes in nozzle geometry.

An experimental investigation of transient cavitation control on a hydrofoil using hemispherical vortex generators

Ebrahim Kadivar et al.

Summary: This study proposed a passive method to control the unsteady behavior of transient cavitation at the medium Reynolds number, and experimental results showed that using hemispherical vortex generators can effectively mitigate the instability behaviors of cavity structures on a hydrofoil and significantly reduce pressure pulsations in the wake region of the hydrofoil.

Numerical investigation of tip-vortex cavitation noise of submarine propellers using hybrid computational hydro-acoustic approach

Garam Ku et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid computational hydro-acoustics method was utilized to predict hydrodynamic noise caused by tip vortex cavitation of underwater submarine propellers. The approach combines Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation with the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings equation for accurate prediction of cavitation and efficient estimation of hydro-acoustic pressure. Results showed that propellers with higher skew angles generated lower noise levels.

Cavitation of Multiscale Vortices in Circular Cylinder Wake at Re = 9500

Fadong Gu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the cavitation characteristics in the wake of a circular cylinder with multiscale vortices using Large Eddy Simulation (LES). It is found that cavitation can inhibit vortex shedding and induce the merging or splitting of cavities in the wake. The study provides insights into the interaction between cavitation and vortices in fluid dynamics.
