Widespread prevalence of hypoxia and the classification of hypoxic conditions in the Laurentian Great Lakes

Joshua M. Tellier et al.

Summary: The Wubi input method has become a widely used Chinese input method, especially in computer input, and has been widely recognized by users. The Wubi input method was developed by Xu Zheng in the early 1980s, and the initial version was based on the input method of radicals. Later, after continuous improvement and perfection, multiple versions were launched. The characteristics of the Wubi input method are fast, accurate, and can be personalized based on the user's input habits.

Recently Amplified Interannual Variability of the Great Lakes Ice Cover in Response to Changing Teleconnections

Yu-Chun Lin et al.

Summary: The interannual variability of the Great Lakes annual maximum ice cover is influenced by large-scale atmospheric circulations. In recent decades, there has been a decrease in accumulated freezing degree days and a decrease in AMIC after 1997/98 winter. AMIC was significantly correlated with ENSO, NAO, and PNA before 1997/98, and with TNH and EPO after that. The shift of the ridge-trough system over North America coincided with the increased interannual variability of EPO index and changes in SST over the northeast Pacific.

Characterizing the Seasonal Variability of Hypolimnetic Mixing in a Large, Deep Lake

David James Cannon et al.

Summary: This study reports on turbulent mixing observed during the annual stratification cycle in the hypolimnetic waters of Lake Michigan, highlighting stratified, convective, and transitional mixing periods. Results show a shallow, wind-driven surface mixed layer and locally elevated dissipation rates in the thermocline during the stratified summer, while turbulence is weak and buoyancy-suppressed below the thermocline.

Seasonal overturn and stratification changes drive deep-water warming in one of Earth's largest lakes

Eric J. Anderson et al.

Summary: This study analyzes three decades of high frequency subsurface water temperature data from Lake Michigan, showing that deep water temperatures are rising in the winter. The data reveals precise measurements of key points in the lake's temperature changes, suggesting shifts in thermal regimes could have profound impacts on freshwater ecosystems.

Modeling a Large Coastal Upwelling Event in Lake Superior

Yaru Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated a strong wind-driven upwelling event in Lake Superior during the summer of 2010, using a 3-D model to accurately reproduce the current and thermal structures. The research found a significant negative correlation between alongshore wind stress and lake temperature change in the upwelling zone.
