Effects of bariatric surgery on testosterone level and sexual function in men with obesity: A retrospective study

Guoji Chen et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of bariatric surgery on sexual function in Chinese men with obesity. The results revealed that BMI and waist circumference were negatively correlated with testosterone levels, and BMI was an independent risk factor for the severity of erectile dysfunction. Bariatric surgery led to significant improvement in sexual function of men with obesity, and the two procedures had a similar effect.

Insulinogenic index and early phase insulin secretion predict increased risk of worsening glucose tolerance and of cystic fibrosis-related diabetes

Kathryn J. Potter et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical estimation of insulin secretion in a prospective cohort at risk for cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) and found that the insulinogenic index (IGI) and area under the curve for insulin normalized for glucose (AUCins/glu) could serve as predictors for CFRD risk.

Changes in adipokine levels and metabolic profiles following bariatric surgery

Natalja Sebunova et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of bariatric surgery on adipokine levels and metabolic profile in obese patients. The results showed that bariatric surgery led to an increase in adiponectin levels and a decrease in leptin levels. Additionally, there were significant improvements in anthropometric parameters, metabolic markers, and inflammatory markers, suggesting a potential reduction in metabolic syndrome and risk for type 2 diabetes.

Prolactin Is Associated With Insulin Resistance and Beta-Cell Dysfunction in Infertile Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Haiyan Yang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that infertile women with PCOS have lower serum PRL levels within the normal range, which are associated with a higher incidence of insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction. Additionally, serum PRL levels were positively correlated with HDL-C and negatively correlated with various anthropometric parameters, sex hormones, fasting lipids, and hepatic biological parameters. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that LH, LH/FSH, E-2, FINS, HOMA-IR, and HOMA-beta were negatively associated with serum PRL after adjusting for age and BMI.
