Summary: This study investigates the impact of tube arrangement in a multiple-tube heat exchanger on the solidification process and heat removal rate in a multi-tube latent heat energy system. The results show that the heat removal rate is affected by tube temperature and position, with higher rates observed when tubes are closer to the top of the shell and at higher temperatures. Proper consideration of tube arrangement is crucial for enhancing heat recovery processes in phase change heat storage systems.

Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Triple Tube Latent Heat Storage System Using Circular Fins with Inline and Staggered Arrangements

Xinguo Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of circular fins with staggered distribution in a vertical triple-tube heat exchanger was investigated to improve the thermal response rates of PCM. Results showed that staggered fin distribution significantly increased the rates of PCM melting, with potential for 37.2% increase in melting rate and 59.1% increase in heat charging rate. Furthermore, the use of lengthy fins in the vertical direction of the storage unit along with smaller thickness resulted in faster melting rates, indicating a positive role of natural convection.

Solidification Enhancement in a Multi-Tube Latent Heat Storage System for Efficient and Economical Production: Effect of Number, Position and Temperature of the Tubes

Min Li et al.

Summary: Thermal energy storage is crucial in bridging the gap between energy supply and demand. The position of heat exchanger tubes and the distribution of HTF in the unit impact the energy discharging potential and buoyancy effect during solidification. Moving HTF tubes to medium positions vertically can enhance PCM solidification, while repositioning tubes on the left side may improve heat removal rate but also negatively affect solidification. Decreasing HTF temperature can significantly increase heat removal rate.

Summary: In this study, a computational assessment was conducted to enhance thermal energy storage in a big-scale heat exchanger using nano-PCM technology. The addition of high thermal conductive nano-oxides into the PCM improved heat transmission and melting rate, but increasing the nanoparticle concentration did not significantly enhance performance.
