Scaling of Cross Sections for the Production of K-Vacancies in Atomic Collisions

A. N. Zinoviev et al.

Summary: A universal dependence (scaling) method is proposed for estimating the cross sections for the production of K-vacancies in collisions of keV ions and atoms, which can be used to analyze the ionization process in atomic collisions and the electron stopping powers in solid materials.

Contribution of Elementary Processes to the Electronic Stopping Power during Atomic Collisions

A. N. Zinoviev et al.

Summary: The study shows that significant energy losses are carried away by knocked-out electrons, which plays a crucial role in the quantitative agreement for electronic stopping losses. The average energy of knocked-out electrons depends on the impact velocity for velocities smaller than 1.5 atomic units. Multiple ionization processes are important contributors to electronic stopping power, increasing it by 6% in the case of p-He and by 23% in the case of p-Ar.
