Summary: Gliomas, particularly high-grade gliomas, are the most common type of central nervous system tumors. Recent studies suggest that electrophysiologic events in the area surrounding the tumor may affect its behavior and progression. Spreading depolarization (SD), a phenomenon observed in pre-clinical glioma models, could potentially contribute to non-epileptic transient neurologic deficits and tumor progression. Further investigations are needed to determine whether targeting SD could limit disease progression in high-grade glioma patients.
