COnstrained Reference frame diffusion TEnsor Correlation Spectroscopic (CORTECS) MRI: A practical framework for high-resolution diffusion tensor distribution imaging

Alexandru V. Avram et al.

Summary: High-resolution imaging studies have shown that water diffusion in cortical tissue preferentially occurs along radial and tangential orientations. Based on this finding, a new imaging framework is proposed to visualize non-parametric diffusion tensor distributions. The framework allows efficient reconstruction of microscopic diffusion tensors and quantification of their shape and size characteristics. The framework is validated by comparing the results with histological observations, demonstrating its potential for analyzing the microstructure of brain tissue.

A new framework for MR diffusion tensor distribution

Kulam Najmudeen Magdoom et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new theoretical framework and experimental design to describe and measure the structural heterogeneity and anisotropy within MRI voxels. A constrained normal tensor-variate distribution is proposed to model the variability of diffusion tensors within a voxel, enhancing the richness of diffusion tensor distribution paradigm. By synthesizing realistic numerical phantoms and inverting MR signals, the study demonstrates the robustness and feasibility of the proposed method. The use of Monte Carlo scheme and signal inversion technique can contribute to a more accurate understanding of water diffusion processes within the body.

Whole-Brain Imaging of Subvoxel T1-Diffusion Correlation Spectra in Human Subjects

Alexandru V. Avram et al.

Summary: A new MRI method has been developed to quantify the variations of T1 and MD in microscopic tissue environments, leading to improved biological specificity in diagnosing specific tissues. Through advanced spectroscopic techniques, MRI can provide more nuanced and specific assessments of non-specific changes in various neurological conditions.
