Semi-supervised Deep Learning via Transformation Consistency Regularization for Remote Sensing Image Semantic Segmentation

Bin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a new semisupervised deep semantic labeling framework is proposed for the semantic segmentation of high-resolution RS images. The model uses transformation consistency regularization to encourage consistent network predictions under different random transformations or perturbations. Three different transforms were tried to compute the consistency loss and analyze their performance. A comprehensive experiments on two RS datasets confirmed that the suggested approach utilized latent information from unlabeled samples to obtain more precise predictions and outperformed existing semisupervised algorithms in terms of performance. Our experiments further demonstrated that our semisupervised semantic labeling strategy has the potential to partially tackle the problem of limited labeled samples for high-resolution RS image land-cover segmentation.

Summary: The performance of hyperspectral image classification is influenced by spatial and spectral information, but affected by factors like data redundancy and insufficient spatial resolution. While 3D-CNN-based methods perform well, they come with high computational complexity. To address these issues, this study proposes a consolidated C-CNN method that combines 3D-CNN and 2D-CNN. PCA is used to reduce spectral redundancy, and image augmentation techniques are employed to increase training samples and prevent overfitting. The proposed C-CNN model, named C-CNN-Aug, achieves optimal trade-off between accuracy and computational time compared to other methods.

Using machine learning models, remote sensing, and GIS to investigate the effects of changing climates and land uses on flood

Summary: This study investigated the effects of climate and land use changes on flood susceptibility areas in the Tajan watershed in Iran. By predicting land use changes over the next 20 years and projecting future climate change, the study identified factors such as elevation, distance from river, land use, slope, and rainfall as the most important factors influencing flooding in the basin. The findings suggest that decreased forest cover, reduced rangeland near rivers, and increased rainfall could lead to increased probabilities of flooding in downstream areas of the watershed and near the sea.
