Seamless Genetic Recording of Transiently Activated Mesenchymal Gene Expression in Endothelial Cells During Cardiac Fibrosis

Shaohua Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that during cardiac development, cardiac ECs can transdifferentiate into mesenchymal cells through EndoMT but do not contribute to myofibroblasts or express known mesenchymal genes transiently during fibrosis in the adult heart. Resident fibroblasts are the major contributors to cardiac fibrosis by activating mesenchymal gene expression.

A suite of new Dre recombinase drivers markedly expands the ability to perform intersectional genetic targeting

Ximeng Han et al.

Summary: The study developed over 70 new intersectional drivers to better target diverse cell lineages, expanding the application of the dual recombinase-mediated intersectional genetic approach. Using these new tools, it was found that perivascular progenitors are the endogenous progenitors of adult adipocytes. Additionally, these new drivers can more specifically knock out genes in complex tissues.

Proliferation tracing reveals regional hepatocyte generation in liver homeostasis and repair

Lingjuan He et al.

Summary: A genetic system called ProTracer was developed to record proliferation events of entire cell populations, revealing more hepatocyte proliferation in distinct zones in the liver. This unbiased method enables the detection of specific cellular compartments with enhanced regenerative capacities.

Cell proliferation fate mapping reveals regional cardiomyocyte cell-cycle activity in subendocardial muscle of left ventricle

Xiuxiu Liu et al.

Summary: Cardiac regeneration involves the generation of new cardiomyocytes from cycling cardiomyocytes, with a subset of cycling cardiomyocytes identified as undergoing cell division. Regional patterns of cycling cardiomyocytes are induced by myocardial infarction and cardiac pressure overload. The Hippo pathway effector YAP is required for cardiomyocyte cell cycle activity.
