Liquid Scintillators Loaded with up to 40 Weight Percent Cesium Lead Bromide Quantum Dots for Gamma Scintillation

Hao Yu et al.

Summary: Cesium lead bromide quantum dot (CsPbBr3 QD) has great potential as a luminescent material for gamma ray detection. However, its self-absorption reduces the scintillation light yield. By co-dissolving a fluorescent dye PM-580 in the solution, the self-absorption of QDs can be overcome, and the scintillation decay kinetics can be accelerated. The liquid scintillator loaded with 40 wt % CsPbBr3 QD showed excellent performance in terms of light yield and energy resolution.

Ultrahigh-energy photons up to 1.4 petaelectronvolts from 12 γ-ray Galactic sources

Zhen Cao et al.

Summary: The extension of the cosmic-ray spectrum beyond 1 petaelectronvolt indicates the existence of PeVatrons, cosmic-ray factories that accelerate particles to PeV energies. Detection of ultrahigh-energy gamma radiation is a key signature of PeVatrons, with ongoing efforts to locate and identify these extreme accelerators. Despite detecting high-energy gamma rays from various sources, the exact origin and identity of the PeVatrons responsible for the ultrahigh-energy gamma rays remain unknown.

Optically synchronized fibre links using spectrally pure chip-scale lasers

Grant M. Brodnik et al.

Summary: Precision optical-frequency and phase synchronization over fibre is crucial for various applications, and chip-scale stabilized lasers have demonstrated ultralow residual phase error variance. This performance is achieved through integrated Brillouin lasers, compact reference cavities, and a novel low-bandwidth optical-frequency-stabilized phase-locked loop. The results pave the way for low-power, precision applications in distributed atomic clocks, quantum links, database synchronization, and digital-signal-processor-free coherent fibre interconnects.

Revealing the internal luminescence quantum efficiency of perovskite films via accurate quantification of photon recycling

Paul Fassl et al.

Summary: The study establishes an analysis procedure to accurately determine the photon escape probability of perovskite films based on PL spectra, revealing higher (p) over bar (e) values than previously assumed. Applying the model to CH3NH3PbI3 films corrects previous estimates for internal luminescence quantum efficiency, showing more potential for reducing non-radiative recombination than initially thought.
