Deterministic Time-Bin Entanglement between a Single Photon and an Atomic Ensemble

Peng-Fei Sun et al.

Summary: This Letter reports the deterministic creation of entanglement between an atomic ensemble and a single photon by harnessing the Rydberg blockade. A scheme is designed to create entanglement between the temporal modes of a single photon and the Rydberg levels that host a collective excitation, using a process of cyclical retrieving and patching. The hybrid entanglement is tested via retrieving the atomic excitation as a second photon and performing correlation measurements, which suggest a high entanglement fidelity.

Sequential generation of multiphoton entanglement with a Rydberg superatom

Chao-Wei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, up to six photons in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state were sequentially generated using a Rydberg superatom, a mesoscopic atomic ensemble under strong Rydberg blockade. By iterating the photon creation process, a train of single photons entangled in the time-bin degree of freedom was achieved. The overall efficiency to detect one photon is 9.4%, which can be corrected to a scaling factor of 27%, surpassing previous results and paving the way for larger-scale photonic entanglement.

High-fidelity photonic quantum logic gate based on near-optimal Rydberg single-photon source

Shuai Shi et al.

Summary: Photon, as one of the qubits, stands out due to its unparalleled advantages in long-distance quantum information exchange, making it a natural choice for building a large-scale, modular optical quantum computer operating at room temperature. However, the low fidelity and probabilistic nature of two-photon logic gates result in a significant resource overhead for fault tolerant quantum computation. By using a near-optimal Rydberg single-photon source, the authors demonstrate a linear-optical quantum logic gate with high gate fidelities, paving the way for scalable photonic quantum applications based on near-optimal single-photon qubits and photon-photon gates.

Deterministic measurement of a Rydberg superatom qubit via cavity-enhanced single-photon emission

Chao-Wei Yang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a cavity-enhanced single-photon interface for a Rydberg superatom was reported, and deterministic qubit readout was demonstrated via a photon burst. By utilizing a low-finesse ring cavity to enhance the atom-photon interaction, an efficient in-fiber single-photon generation efficiency of 44% was achieved.

Symmetry-Protected Topological Phases in a Rydberg Glass

Kai Li et al.

Summary: Recent theoretical studies suggest that structural disorder can induce a topological insulator from a crystalline material, but experimental observation is challenging. With the experimentally realized randomly positioned Rydberg atoms, studying structural disorder induced topological phase transitions becomes feasible. The research reveals symmetry-protected topological amorphous insulators and structural disorder induced topological phase transition at a single-particle level in an experimentally accessible system.
