Propane Dehydrogenation on Single-Site [PtZn4] Intermetallic Catalysts

Sai Chen et al.

Summary: The single-site [PtZn4] catalyst developed in this study exhibits high selectivity and ultra-stability, achieving over 95% propylene selectivity in a high temperature range, with no obvious deactivation observed during long-term testing. The surface [PtZn4] ensembles in PtZn IMAs serve as key active site structures, promoting the C-H cleavage of propane while inhibiting further dehydrogenation of surface-bounded propylene, thereby improving selectivity and stability.

First-principles design of a single-atom-alloy propane dehydrogenation catalyst

Ryan T. Hannagan et al.

Summary: The well-defined nature of single-atom-alloy catalysts allows for unambiguous theoretical modeling and precise surface science experiments, leading to the design of highly active, selective, and coke-resistant catalysts for low-temperature nonoxidative propane dehydrogenation.

C-H bond activation in light alkanes: a theoretical perspective

Yalan Wang et al.

Summary: Alkanes as feedstocks play a crucial role in the chemical industry, and the activation of C-H bonds in light alkanes has attracted widespread attention due to the increasing global demand for light alkenes and synthesis gas. The theoretical understanding of this process through DFT and microkinetic modeling provides insights into catalyst design. This review focuses on the activation of methane, ethane, and propane on various surfaces with an emphasis on suppressing side reactions and coke formation.

Propane dehydrogenation: catalyst development, new chemistry, and emerging technologies

Sai Chen et al.

Summary: The review discusses recent advances in understanding the PDH process, including emerging technologies, catalyst development, and new chemistry for regulating catalyst structures and inhibiting catalyst deactivation. Analysis and discussion on active sites, reaction pathways, and deactivation mechanisms of PDH over metals and metal oxides, as well as their dependent factors, are provided to enable efficient catalyst design for minimizing reaction barriers and controlling selectivity towards propylene. Challenges and perspectives of PDH over heterogeneous catalysts are also proposed for further development.
