Strong Coupling of Exciton and High-Q Mode in All-Perovskite Metasurfaces

Ibrahim A. M. Al-Ani et al.

Summary: By optimizing the strong coupling between perovskite excitons and quasi-bound states in the continuum, supported by an all-perovskite metagrating with high-quality factor, it is possible to achieve a record high Rabi splitting value. The thickness of the perovskite metasurface and the Q-factor of the QBIC mode play dominant roles in enhancing the strong coupling.

Polaritonic critical coupling in a hybrid quasibound states in the continuum cavity-WS2 monolayer system

Xia Zhang et al.

Summary: We theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate the achievement of perfect feeding of a polaritonic system, referred to as polaritonic critical coupling, in a hybrid dielectric metasurface-WS2 monolayer structure. The population of the polariton states can be tuned by the asymmetry parameter of the quasibound states in the continuum, leading to the achievement of either critical coupling and strong coupling or only strong coupling. This work enriches the study of polaritonic physics with controlled absorbance and has potential implications in the design and application of efficient polariton-based light-emitting or lasing devices.

All-Dielectric Crescent Metasurface Sensor Driven by Bound States in the Continuum

Juan Wang et al.

Summary: Metasurfaces based on silicon crescent meta-atoms exhibit high sensitivity and potential for real-time and in situ biosensing for a wide range of diagnostic applications due to their high quality factor resonances and near-field enhancements. The higher-order resonance of the metasurface shows twice the sensitivity of the fundamental one for bulk refractive index sensing, making it ideal for compact sensing devices in microfluidic integration.

Low-Threshold Bound State in the Continuum Lasers in Hybrid Lattice Resonance Metasurfaces

Jhen-Hong Yang et al.

Summary: Bound states in the continuum (BICs) have recently gained attention for their high Q-factor and localized fields, which lead to enhanced light-matter interactions. This study demonstrates room temperature directional lasing with BIC metasurface, showing directional radiation and larger emission volume compared to plasmonic nanolasers. The high Q-factor resonance of BIC metasurface overcomes the limitation of a large mode volume in achieving low-threshold lasing, with a design rule proposed to prevent wavelength shift.

Strong coupling between excitons in a two-dimensional atomic crystal and quasibound states in the continuum in a two-dimensional all-dielectric asymmetric metasurface

Peng Xie et al.

Summary: Researchers investigated the interaction between excitons and quasibound states in a two-dimensional atomic crystal and all-dielectric asymmetric metasurface. They found that both coherent and incoherent coupling processes coexist in the strong coupled system, leading to sub/superradiant polariton states. The topology of the two-dimensional all-dielectric metasurface modulates the fractions of magnetic and electric dipole ingredients, showing different features in high- and low-energy hybrid modes in the strong coupling system.
