Preparation and Application of Microelectrodes at the Single-Molecule Scale

Tengyang Gao et al.

Summary: Molecular electronics offers a potential solution for miniaturizing electronics beyond traditional silicon electronics by fabricating single-molecule junctions with electronic unit functions. Various dynamic methods for constructing molecular junctions have been developed, allowing precise control of the gap and measurement of thousands of junctions. Microelectrodes, commonly used electrodes, have at least one dimension on the micron scale. This review summarizes the preparation methods of microelectrodes, their application in single-molecule measurements, and discusses electrode factors influencing molecular electrical properties, providing a brief outlook on molecular electronics.
