Conserved Metabolic and Evolutionary Themes in Microbial Degradation of Carbamate Pesticides

Harshit Malhotra et al.

Summary: Carbamate pesticides are widely used in agriculture, food, and public health sectors but their environmental persistence impacts non-target organisms. Bacteria have evolved degradation pathways for these compounds, with mechanisms like horizontal gene transfer and enzyme promiscuity driving evolution of degradation phenotype. This review discusses the environmental fate, toxicity, metabolic routes, related genes and enzymes, and evolution mechanisms associated with carbamate pesticide degradation, as well as strategies like consortia application, metabolic engineering, and adaptive laboratory evolution for improving remediation efficiency.

Co-Al Layered double hydroxides decorated with CoFe2O4 nanoparticles and g-C3N4 nanosheets for efficient photocatalytic pesticide degradation

Haniyeh Sheikhpoor et al.

Summary: Composite photocatalysts containing Co-Al LDH, g-C3N4, and CoFe2O4 showed enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of chlorpyrifos, achieving almost complete degradation under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of the composite was dependent on factors such as CP concentration, pH, and photocatalyst amount, with a mathematical model developed for optimized photodegradation.

Facile synthesis of modified carbon nitride with enhanced activity for photocatalytic degradation of atrazine

Xue Liu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel modified carbon nitride (TEA-CN-30) with efficient photocatalytic performance for removing pesticides in water environment, especially atrazine. Experimental results show that TEA-CN-30 exhibits significantly enhanced photocatalytic degradation of atrazine compared to traditional carbon nitride, and also has good removal efficiency for other commonly used pesticides.

Summary: The research investigated the photocatalytic degradation of pesticide chlorpyrifos using mZnO/TiO2-Fe3O4 nanocomposite, with optimized parameters achieving a degradation performance of over 94%. The results suggest that the nanocomposite is a promising alternative for chlorpyrifos degradation in aqueous solution, attributed to effective electron-hole pair separation via a Z-scheme mechanism.
