Automatic Pico Laser Trimming System for Silicon MEMS Resonant Devices Based on Image Recognition

Yuxian Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, an automatic laser trimming system for silicon MEMS devices is proposed, which is based on a picosecond laser source and image recognition technique. The system achieves a high precision and efficiency trimming at low cost by designing laser focusing optical path and coaxial imaging optical path. The experiments determine a set of picosecond laser trimming parameters, enabling a 4um width trench on the silicon resonator. The system reduces the cost by more than 60% compared with femtosecond laser trimming systems.

Robust, efficient, micrometre-scale phase modulators at visible wavelengths

Guozhen Liang et al.

Summary: The study presents visible-spectrum silicon nitride thermo-optic phase modulators based on adiabatic micro-ring resonators, which offer a one-order-of-magnitude reduction in both device footprint and power consumption compared to waveguide phase modulators. These modulators provide 1.6 pi phase modulation with minimal amplitude variations and improved robustness against fabrication variations.

Electron Beam Maneuvering of a Single Polymer Layer for Reversible 3D Self-Assembly

Chunhui Dai et al.

Summary: This study presents a reversible self-assembly technique using electron irradiation to trigger degradation and generate stress in a polymer layer, allowing for nanoscale controllable reversible motion. By tuning the energy and location of the electron beam, the stress gradient can shift between the top and bottom surfaces of the polymer layer, enabling reversible motion. This method opens up new possibilities for innovation in small-scale machines and reconfigurable functional devices.
