Selective, Stable, Bias-Free, and Efficient Solar Hydrogen Peroxide Production on Inorganic Layered Materials

Jaejung Song et al.

Summary: The importance of hydrogen peroxide continues to rise globally. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) towards the 2e(-) pathway to form H2O2 is crucial for high productivity. However, existing catalysts made of carbon-containing materials have low stability, hindering their commercial applicability. In this study, layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are used as inorganic matrices for the first time. The developed LDH catalyst exhibits near-100% 2e(-) ORR selectivity and stably produces H2O2 with a high concentration.

First-row transition metal-based materials derived from bimetallic metal-organic frameworks as highly efficient electrocatalysts for electrochemical water splitting

Soheila Sanati et al.

Summary: Electrochemical water splitting is a well-established technology for hydrogen generation, but the limited availability of precious metals as catalysts necessitates the search for alternative, efficient, inexpensive, and abundant materials. Bimetallic materials based on first-row transition metals are considered promising alternatives to noble metal catalysts. This review highlights recent advancements in bimetallic electrocatalysts derived from metal-organic frameworks, emphasizing their potential as efficient catalysts for water splitting.

Enhanced activity promoted by amorphous metal oxyhydroxides on CeO2 for alkaline oxygen evolution reaction

Xun Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a direct growth of amorphous metal oxyhydroxide (AMO) attached on CeO2 as an advanced oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst was successfully demonstrated through a galvanic replacement mechanism. The CeO2 substrate provides a high specific surface area and high conductivity for the formation of AMO, ensuring promoted electron transfer for the catalytic reaction. The AMO on the CeO2 surface exposes abundant active sites for the OER, leading to excellent OER performance of the prepared AMO@CeO2 supported on nickel foam.

Oxygen Evolution Reaction Activity and Stability Benchmarks for Supported and Unsupported IrOx Electrocatalysts

Camila Daiane Ferreira da Silva et al.

Summary: Supported IrOx nanocatalysts are more active but less stable for OER compared to unsupported micrometer-sized catalysts, while Ta-doped tin oxides used as supports for IrOx nanoparticles show higher stability. Thermal annealing significantly reduces Ir atom dissolution rate for both micro- and nano-IrOx particles, leading to improved stability.
