Exploring groups of opinion spam using sentiment analysis guided by nominated topics

Jiandun Li et al.

Summary: Currently, the issue of fake reviews or spam poses a serious threat to product reputation, with detection of group spam being more urgent than individual fraud. Existing techniques for labeling group spam are limited, highlighting the need for new approaches. This paper introduces a novel method based on aspect-oriented sentiment mining, which proves to be effective in detecting spam groups.

Spam review detection using self attention based CNN and bi-directional LSTM

P. Bhuvaneshwari et al.

Summary: Opinion reviews play a vital role in e-commerce, but the exponential growth of spam reviews has become a serious issue on the internet. Researchers have proposed a Deep Learning framework to address this problem, which uses attention mechanism, Convolution Neural Network, and Bi-directional LSTM to learn document-level representation and outperforms other methods in terms of classification accuracy.

An unsupervised approach to detect review spam using duplicates of images, videos and Chinese texts

Jiandun Li et al.

Summary: Image or video-based recommendations are popular on opinion sharing platforms, but are more susceptible to spam attacks. There is less research on opinion spam detection for images and videos, and an unsupervised approach is proposed to label suspected spam. Experimental results show that image spam is more severe, and spammers also use fictitious events to influence customers.

Spam review detection using self-organizing maps and convolutional neural networks

Ashraf Neisari et al.

Summary: Online public reviews play a significant role in influencing consumer behavior, with fake reviews being a prevalent issue that researchers have been addressing. Different approaches have been introduced to distinguish between genuine and fake reviews, including linguistic and behavioral-based features, as well as the application of machine learning methods such as unsupervised and supervised learning. The proposed method in this study utilizes linguistic features and employs a combination of self-organizing maps and convolutional neural networks to achieve high accuracy in classifying reviews.

An Attention-Based Unsupervised Adversarial Model for Movie Review Spam Detection

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: With the prevalence of online reviews, concerns about their authenticity have risen. Deceptive reviews, or review spams, mislead users and erode trust. By focusing on movie reviews and introducing an attention mechanism, this study develops an innovative unsupervised spam detection model that outperforms existing manual feature extraction methods.

Machine Cleaning of Online Opinion Spam: Developing a Machine-Learning Algorithm for Detecting Deceptive Comments

Yu Won Oh et al.

Summary: Humans struggle to detect deception in comments, relying on poor judgments. This study aims to develop an automated machine-learning technique for determining comment trustworthiness, achieving nearly 81% accuracy in detecting untruthful opinions on social issues. The proposed technique is one of the first attempts to detect comment deception in Asian languages.
