Impaired Metacognition of Voluntary Movement in Functional Movement Disorder

Julius Verrel et al.

Summary: The study aimed to test if FMD patients have difficulties in accurately judging and evaluating their own movements, and found that they showed impairments in both visuomotor decision-making and metacognitive evaluation of these decisions.

Functional movement disorder gender, age and phenotype study: a systematic review and individual patient meta-analysis of 4905 cases

Sarah C. Lidstone et al.

Summary: Functional movement disorder (FMD) is a common manifestation of functional neurological disorder with diverse phenotypes. This meta-analysis examined the relationship between age at onset, phenotype, and gender in FMD. The study found that women had an earlier age of onset than men, and mixed FMD, tremor, and weakness were the most common phenotypes. The data supports the concept of both grouping FMD as a unitary disorder and splitting it into individual phenotypes.

Neurophysiological mechanisms underlying motor feature binding processes and representations

Adam Takacs et al.

Summary: This study examined the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying binding processes in actions using EEG recordings and various analyses. The findings suggest that the binding of action features modulates pre-motor processes preceding motor execution, but not motor execution processes themselves.

Neural dynamics of stimulus-response representations during inhibitory control

Astrid Prochnow et al.

Summary: In this research, the study investigated the impact and neurophysiological dynamics of event file representations in response inhibition. The findings suggest that overlapping features in stimuli used for response execution or inhibition can compromise task performance, with event file coding processes affecting response inhibition through partial repetition costs. Through temporal generalization MVPA, it was identified that event file representations are stable over several hundred milliseconds and show sustained activation patterns of neural dynamics during inhibitory control.

Movement perception of the tonic vibration reflex is abnormal in functional limb weakness

Michele Tinazzi et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with functional limb weakness, both the magnitude of the TVR and the perception of TVR movement were significantly reduced. There was no correlation between the magnitude of the TVR and perception of TVR movement, indicating that the abnormalities were independent of each other. Additionally, the observed deficits did not differ between patients with bilateral or unilateral limb involvement, suggesting that they are independent of motor impairment.

Summary: The study revealed age-related effects on event file coding processes both at the behavioral and the neurophysiological level. As individuals age, the unbinding and rebinding processes of event files become more efficient.

Summary: The study found that the processes integrating different action-related elements prior to motor execution are normal in Tourette syndrome, suggesting that Tourette is not solely a motor disorder.
