Is the molecular KS relationship universal down to low metallicities?

David J. Whitworth et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of metallicity and ultraviolet (UV) field strength on star formation and the molecular gas Kennicutt-Schmidt (KS) relation within a galaxy. By conducting simulations of isolated dwarf galaxies, the authors find that reducing metallicity and UV field has minimal effect on star formation but moderately steepens the KS relation.

The Galactic dynamics revealed by the filamentary structure in atomic hydrogen emission

J. D. Soler et al.

Summary: This study investigates the filamentary structure in the neutral atomic hydrogen emission in the Galactic plane. The results show that the H I filaments in the outer regions of the Milky Way display a preferred orientation parallel to the Galactic plane, while those in the inner regions do not have a preferred orientation or are mostly perpendicular to the Galactic plane. The study also reveals the connection between the H I filamentary structures and the dynamical processes shaping the Galactic disk.

GASKAP Pilot Survey Science. II. ASKAP Zoom Observations of Galactic 21 cm Absorption

John M. Dickey et al.

Summary: Using the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder, this study investigates the cool phase of neutral atomic gas in both the inner and outer regions of the Milky Way galaxy. It is found that the cool atomic gas in the inner region has a smaller scale height, similar to the molecular gas and super-thin stellar population. In the outer region, the cool atomic gas is mixed with warm neutral medium, with the cool fraction remaining roughly constant with Galactic radius. Analysis of the emission brightness temperature and absorption ratio suggests that the fraction of gas mass in the cool phase is approximately one-third of the total H i mass.

SILCC VI - Multiphase ISM structure, stellar clustering, and outflows with supernovae, stellar winds, ionizing radiation, and cosmic rays

Tim-Eric Rathjen et al.

Summary: The simulations show that in the solar neighborhood, stellar feedback plays a significant role in influencing the energy densities and star formation rate surface densities of the interstellar medium. Factors such as stellar winds, radiation, supernovae, and cosmic rays help regulate star cluster formation and prevent excessive starburst events. The study indicates that different feedback mechanisms contribute to shaping the characteristics of the star-forming ISM and outflows/inflows relevant to star formation regulation.

On the Three-dimensional Structure of Local Molecular Clouds

Catherine Zucker et al.

Summary: This study utilizes the high spatial resolution dust map to characterize the three-dimensional structure of nearby molecular clouds, revealing that clouds have outer and inner layers, with the outer layer being wider and lower in density, while the inner layer is narrower and higher in density, with an approximate ratio of 3:1 in widths. The study also proposes two hypotheses on possible transitions in the cloud structure and finds that fitting the clouds with two-component Gaussian functions or Plummer functions is more appropriate.

The BLUEDISK Survey: Thickness of H i Layers in Gas-rich Spiral Galaxies

Toky H. Randriamampandry et al.

Summary: We measured the H i scale height of H i-rich galaxies using 21 cm observations and compared it with other galaxy properties. Our results indicate a correlation between the thickness of the H i layer and the atomic gas fraction inside the optical disk, as well as a link between star formation and the vertical distribution of H i. This new scaling relation can help predict the H i scale heights of galaxies in the future with a larger sample size needed to decrease scatter.

Simulations of the star-forming molecular gas in an interacting M51-like galaxy: cloud population statistics

Robin G. Tress et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reactions of giant molecular clouds to different environmental conditions in galaxies, revealing that galaxy interactions or isolation have limited effects on cloud masses and sizes, but can promote the formation of counter-rotating clouds.
