VLT/MUSE Observations of SDSS J1029+2623: Toward a High-precision Strong Lensing Model

Ana Acebron et al.

Summary: This study presents a strong lensing analysis of a galaxy cluster, SDSS J1029+2623, at z = 0.588. The researchers used Hubble Space Telescope imaging and Spectroscopic Explorer follow-up spectroscopy to build a precise lens mass model. The study provides important information about the cluster's members, nearby perturbers, and the inner kinematics of a subset of galaxies. It also offers insights into the redshift and magnitudes of multiple images from background sources.

Detecting low-mass haloes with strong gravitational lensing I: the effect of data quality and lensing configuration

Giulia Despali et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the detection of low-mass dark matter halos using galaxy-galaxy strong gravitational lensing, finding that the lowest detectable mass is related to signal-to-noise ratio and resolution, with higher sensitivity to bright and complex lensed galaxies. The results highlight the challenging nature of precise forecasting for gravitational imaging and suggest possible strategies for designing strong lensing surveys.

The Lensed Lyman-Alpha MUSE Arcs Sample (LLAMAS) I. Characterisation of extended Lyman-alpha halos and spatial offsets

A. Claeyssens et al.

Summary: We present the Lensed Lyman-Alpha MUSE Arcs Sample (LLAMAS) selected from MUSE and HST observations of 17 lensing clusters. The sample consists of 603 continuum-faint lensed Lyman-alpha emitters with secure spectroscopic redshifts between 2.9 and 6.7. Our study combines cluster magnification with 3D spectroscopic observations to reveal the resolved morphological properties of the Lyman-alpha emitters. We find a significant correlation between UV continuum and Lyman-alpha spatial extent, and the size of the Lyman-alpha halos is linked to the physical properties of the host galaxy.

Automated galaxy-galaxy strong lens modelling: No lens left behind

Amy Etherington et al.

Summary: The authors develop an automatic Bayesian method to fit lens models for 59 galaxy lenses imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. They focus on adjusting the pipeline to achieve accurate fits for all lenses and establish the most challenging steps in the process. The method shows a high-success rate and provides a new approach to error estimation.

Exotic image formation in strong gravitational lensing by clusters of galaxies - I. Cross-section

Ashish Kumar Meena et al.

Summary: The study discussed higher order singularities in gravitational lensing and presented singularity maps for different cluster lenses. It was found that the method of lens mass reconstruction affects the number of unstable point singularities, with non-parametric methods yielding fewer. It is estimated that observations with the JWST may lead to the formation of hyperbolic umbilic and swallowtail images for every five clusters with a source redshift greater than 1.

Strong lensing signatures of self-interacting dark matter in low-mass haloes

Daniel Gilman et al.

Summary: Core formation and runaway core collapse in models with self-interacting dark matter significantly change the density profiles of collapsed haloes. Strong gravitational lenses in quadruple image systems can be used to detect the unique properties of SIDM haloes and constrain the interaction cross-section. Predictions suggest that self-interactions at low velocities and the structure of SIDM on sub-galactic scales can be studied using compact sources and constraining the amplitude and velocity dependence of the interaction cross-section.
