The BAyesian STellar algorithm (BASTA): a fitting tool for stellar studies, asteroseismology, exoplanets, and Galactic archaeology

V. Aguirre Borsen-Koch et al.

Summary: We introduce BASTA, a public version of the Bayesian Stellar Algorithm, an open-source code written in Python. It is designed to determine stellar properties based on astrophysical observables and can robustly combine large datasets including asteroseismology, spectroscopy, photometry, and astrometry. BASTA is the most complete analysis pipeline available for oscillating main-sequence, subgiant, and red giant stars.

Core overshoot constrained by the absence of a solar convective core and some solar-like stars

Qian-Sheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Convective-core overshoot mixing is a significant uncertainty in stellar evolution. This paper investigates the effects of the core overshoot mixing on the properties of the core in solar models. The parameters of the overshoot model are constrained using helioseismic inferences and the observation of the solar B-8 neutrino flux. The results show that the core overshoot mixing can prolong the lifetime of the convective core and lead to large deviations compared with helioseismic inferences. The study also reveals a mass-dependent range of the overshoot parameter and different effective overshoot mixing lengths for elements with different nuclear equilibrium time-scales.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 Parallax bias versus magnitude, colour, and position

L. Lindegren et al.

Summary: The study found that the parallax bias in Gaia EDR3 data is dependent on factors such as magnitude, color, and ecliptic latitude of the source in a non-trivial way. While a definitive method for correcting the parallax is not yet possible, tentative expressions have been provided for researchers to use at their discretion.

PLATO hare-and-hounds exercise: asteroseismic model fitting of main-sequence solar-like pulsators

M. S. Cunha et al.

Summary: Asteroseismology is a powerful tool for inferring fundamental stellar properties, with an experiment revealing the accuracy of inferred values for mass, radius, and age. Different inference procedures, physics assumptions, and weighting of constraints were found to significantly impact the results. Only a few frequencies were needed for accurate mass and radius estimates, while at least one l = 2 mode was crucial for age estimates.

Impact of magnetic activity on inferred stellar properties of main-sequence Sun-like stars

Alexandra E. L. Thomas et al.

Summary: Frequency oscillations in Sun-like stars are affected by magnetic activity, leading to potential biases in inferring stellar properties. Research suggests that magnetic activity influences the results of stellar modeling analysis, with estimates of age and central hydrogen content possibly having significant errors. It is expected that more active stars will experience larger frequency shifts and biases in inferred properties.

Revisiting Kepler-444 II. Rotational, orbital, and high-energy fluxes evolution of the system

C. Pezzotti et al.

Summary: The study examined the orbital evolution of two planets in the Kepler-444 system and the impact of atmospheric evaporation on one of the planets. The results showed a significant influence of stellar rotational history on the estimation of the planet’s mass loss lifetime. It was indicated that even in the case of an extremely slow rotating star, it is unlikely for a planet to retain a fraction of its initial water-ice content.
