A multimission catalogue of ultraluminous X-ray source candidates

D. J. Walton et al.

Summary: The study presents a new catalogue of ULX candidates based on recent data releases from three X-ray observatories, identifying new extreme ULX candidate NGC3044 ULX1. The catalogue includes 1843 ULX candidates associated with 951 host galaxies and is expected to be a valuable resource for future observations of ULXs.

Nebular abundance gradient in the Cartwheel galaxy using MUSE data

Javier Zaragoza-Cardiel et al.

Summary: In this study, the nebular abundances of commonly observed ions in the collisional ring galaxy Cartwheel were analyzed using the VLT MUSE data set. The results showed that the abundance of O increases while the abundances of N and Fe decrease in the star-forming ring. Additionally, the disc H II regions exhibited a clear radial gradient in O abundance, while the ring regions had a lower average O abundance compared to the extrapolation of the radial gradient.

Investigating the nature of the ultraluminous X-ray sources in the galaxy NGC 925

Chiara Salvaggio et al.

Summary: Variability is a powerful tool for studying X-ray binaries, especially Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs). By monitoring ULXs in the galaxy NGC 925, it was found that they exhibit flux variability and possibly also spectral variability.

The Variability Behavior of NGC 925 ULX-3

Hannah P. Earnshaw et al.

Summary: We report the results of a monitoring campaign on the highly variable ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 925 ULX-3. The source exhibits a periodicity of 127-128 days with fluxes ranging from 1 x 10(-13) to 8 x 10(-13) erg s(-1) cm(-2). The source has a typical ULX spectrum and can be fitted using two thermal components in the NuSTAR band.

A transient ultraluminous X-ray source in NGC 55

A. Robba et al.

Summary: This study reports the identification of a new transient ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX-2) in the galaxy NGC 55. The source was previously classified as a transient X-ray source with a lower luminosity, but new observations show that it reaches a peak luminosity above 1.6 x 10(39) erg s(-1). The X-ray spectrum of ULX-2 is softer than in previous observations and can be described by a model with two thermal components. The variability in X-ray emission is likely driven by small changes in the accretion rate or due to super-orbital modulations.

Metallicity and X-ray luminosity variations in NGC922

K. Kouroumpatzakis et al.

Summary: This systematic study of the metallicity variations within the collisional ring galaxy NGC922 reveals a difference in metallicity between star-forming regions in the bulge and the ring. The study also shows an anticorrelation between X-ray luminosity and metallicity of the sub-galactic regions of NGC922.

Chandra Probes the X-Ray Variability of M51 ULX-7: Evidence of Propeller Transition and X-Ray Dips on Orbital Periods

Georgios Vasilopoulos et al.

Summary: The study reveals the temporal properties of the ULX pulsar M51 ULX-7 and suggests a possible propeller transition or a connection to a variable superorbital period during an extended low flux state. In addition, periodic dips in the X-ray light curve associated with the binary orbital period are discovered, indicating that favorable geometries are not necessary to observe ULX pulsars.

Ionized emission and absorption in a large sample of ultraluminous X-ray sources

P. Kosec et al.

Summary: Research has shown that ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) commonly exhibit radiation-driven outflows around stellar-mass black holes due to extreme accretion. Through analysis of X-ray spectra, the study revealed the spectral features, properties of the outflows, and the prevalence of such phenomena among ULXs.
