A dynamic multiple reaction monitoring strategy to develop and optimize targeted metabolomics methods: Analyzing bile acids in capecitabine-induced diarrhea

Zhipeng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a targeted bile acids (BAs) metabolomics method based on a dynamic multiple reaction monitoring (dMRM) strategy was developed and optimized. The dynamic alterations of BAs in capecitabine-induced diarrhea in a mouse model were explored. The results showed that the dMRM strategy had obvious advantages compared with common multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). The differentiated profile of BAs in the baseline may indicate biomarkers of diarrhea induced by capecitabine.

Ultimate fate and possible ecological risks associated with atrazine and its principal metabolites (DIA and DEA) in soil and water environment

Priyanka Bhatti et al.

Summary: This study assessed the ultimate fate of the triazine herbicide metabolites de-isopropylatrazine (DIA) and de-ethylatrazine (DEA) in clay loam and sandy loam soils, as well as their potential ecological risks to non-target species. The results showed that leaching was more pronounced in sandy loam soil, potentially leading to surface and groundwater contamination.

Summary: This study developed a targeted bile acids (BAs) metabolomics method based on dynamic multiple reaction monitoring (dMRM) strategy and explored the dynamic alterations of BAs in diarrhea induced by capecitabine in a mouse model. Results showed that this method achieved shorter chromatographic separation time, increased responses, good peak shapes, and revealed specific changes in different BAs in mice with diarrhea.

Highly-selective complex matrices removal via a modified QuEChERS for determination of triazine herbicide residues and risk assessment in bivalves

Xinru Yu et al.

Summary: A modified QuEChERs method was developed for determining triazine herbicide residues in bivalves. The method achieved good extraction rate and satisfactory recoveries, and was successfully applied to analyze herbicide residues in bivalves collected in the eastern coasts of China, indicating the need for ongoing risk evaluation due to the extensive use of herbicides and large consumption of bivalves globally.

Ying Xue et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence, migration, and transformation of Atrazine (ATR) and its chlorinated metabolites in surface seawater, sediment, and aquatic organisms from Xiangshan Harbor. ATR was found in all samples, with its metabolites showing different patterns of distribution and enrichment levels. The study highlighted the risks ATR poses to aquatic organisms and the ecological environment in mariculture areas.

Risk of pesticide pollution at the global scale

Fiona H. M. Tang et al.

Summary: Pesticides are widely used in agriculture to protect food production but also pose risks to water quality, biodiversity, and human health. A global study found that 64% of agricultural land worldwide is at risk of pesticide pollution, with 31% at high risk, particularly in areas with high biodiversity and water scarcity. High-concern regions such as South Africa, China, India, Australia, and Argentina were identified as facing high pesticide pollution risk, high biodiversity, and water scarcity issues.

Occurrence and dietary risk assessment of 37 pesticides in wheat fields in the suburbs of Beijing, China

Yan Tao et al.

Summary: From 2018 to 2020, 206 pairs of wheat and soil samples were collected from wheat fields in Beijing, China, showing various pesticide residues, with carbendazim and tebuconazole being highly detected in wheat samples. Soil samples frequently contained carbendazim, triazoles, and neonicotinoids, and pesticides exceeding maximum residue limits do not pose non-carcinogenic risks to human health, except for one.

Pesticides: formulants, distribution pathways and effects on human health-a review

Valeriya P. Kalyabina et al.

Summary: Pesticide residues can have long-term negative effects on human and animal health, as well as the stability of ecosystems, despite modern formulations being relatively safe. Research on the effects and consequences of pesticide contamination in agricultural crops, along with implicit risks associated with pesticide formulations, is essential to understand and mitigate the potential impacts of pesticides.
