Synthesis and germination activity study of novel strigolactam/strigolactone analogues

Yuhua Ge et al.

Summary: Herein, an efficient and practical synthetic route was developed to assemble novel highly-tens [5,5] trans-fused B/C strigolactam/strigolactone analogues along with cis-fused strigolactams. The synthetic strategy involves palladium-catalyzed carboxylate-directed olefination of commercially available N-Boc phenylalanines followed by direct photocatalytic decarboxylative Giese cyclization. SAR studies showed that the trans-fused compounds exhibited better activity than the cis-fused compounds. Notably, strigolactones 35/36 and 39/40 demonstrated superior bioactivity compared to GR245DS and GR244DO.

Electrochemical organic reactions: A tutorial review

Joyeeta Lodh et al.

Summary: While electrochemistry involves basic oxidation and reduction reactions, it becomes more complicated in real organic electrochemical reactions. The principles used in electrochemical reactions have been derived from physical organic chemistry and have influenced other organic/inorganic reactions. This review focuses on two main themes: the optimization factors in electrochemical reactions including electrodes, supporting electrolytes, and cell design, and the studies conducted in this field over the past 10 years. Electrochemical reactions can serve as a versatile tool for synthesizing important reactions by modifying the constant electrolysis current.

Stereoselective Total Synthesis of (-)-Thallusin for Bioactivity Profiling

Seema Dhiman et al.

Summary: Chemical mediators play a crucial role in controlling symbiotic interactions in the environment. This study presents a fully stereoselective total synthesis of (-)-thallusin, a differentiation factor in algae, and shows its potent bioactivity in Ulva mutabilis. SAR investigations suggest that (-)-thallusin triggers different pathways in Ulva that can be separated by chemical editing of the compound structure.

A Chiral-Pool-Based Strategy to Access trans-syn-Fused Drimane Meroterpenoids: Chemoenzymatic Total Syntheses of Polysin, N-Acetyl-polyveoline and the Chrodrimanins

Fuzhuo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the first total syntheses of four trans-syn-fused drimane meroterpenoids were reported, achieved in 7-18 steps from sclareolide. The trans-syn-fused drimane unit was accessed through efficient acid-mediated epimerization of sclareolide, and subsequent enzymatic C-H oxidation and contemporary annulation methodologies were applied to rapidly generate structural complexity for concise access to these natural products.

Asymmetric Synthesis of α-Difluorinated β-Amino Sulfones through Detrifluoroacetylative Mannich Reactions

Ziyi Li et al.

Summary: An asymmetric detrifluoroacetylative Mannich reaction has been developed for the synthesis of α-difluorinated β-amino sulfone products from alpha-fluorinated arylsulfonyl gem-diols and fluoroalkyl imines. The reaction shows good tolerance towards different substrates, high diastereoselectivity, and can be scaled up without compromising the yield and stereochemical outcome. The synthetic value of the products is demonstrated through two further transformations.

Two Philippine Photorhabdus luminescens strains inhibit the in vitro growth of Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, and Colletotrichum spp.

Samantha Izabelle R. Alforja et al.

Summary: Fungal phytopathogens are a major cause of global food production losses, with chemical fungicides being a common control method. This study showed that local Photorhabdus strains associated with specific nematodes have potential as biological control agents against selected post-harvest fungal phytopathogens. Further research is needed to develop these biofungicides into practical and environmentally friendly control strategies.
