Qualitative analysis of the acetogenins fromAnnona coriacea(Annonaceae) leaves by HPLC-Q-Orbitrap and their antibacterial potential against oral pathogens

Ana Paula Terezan et al.

Summary: Araticum, a traditional herb in the Brazilian cerrado, is an edible and appreciable fruit. A study found that HPLC-ESI-Q-Orbitrap (R) is an efficient method for analyzing the complex mixture of annonaceous acetogenins, and two specific compounds were identified for the first time. Additionally, the crude leaf extract and acetogenin-rich fractions showed inhibitory effects against oral infection-related bacteria.

Dereplication by HPLC-ESI-MS and antioxidant activity of phenolic compounds from Banisteriopsis laevifolia (Malpighiaceae)

Gerso P. Alexandre et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized compounds from the ethanolic extracts of the leaves and flowers of Banisteriopsis using advanced methodologies. The use of Global Natural Products Social Molecular Networking helped identify seven compounds reported for the first time in this species. The presence and synergistic effect of compounds may contribute to the observed antioxidant activity, warranting further investigation into the chemical and biological properties of these species.

Assessment of Genotoxic potential of Annonacin and Annona muricata L. extracts on human breast cancer (MCF-7) cells

Aditi Venkatesh Naik et al.

Summary: The use of plants, like Annona muricata, for cancer treatment is common globally. This study aimed to investigate the genotoxic effects of leaf and pulp extracts compared to the compound Annonacin on breast cancer cells. Results showed that leaf extracts exhibited higher genotoxic potential than pulp extracts but were less effective than Annonacin. Further research on safety evaluation and genotoxicity endpoints is needed.
